Session Breakdown

Session 1 | Dr. Wiley Blevins
Decodables in PreK–3: How to Address the Entire Reading Rope
Decodable texts are one of the most underutilized tools in early literacy instruction and they're capable of so much more than decoding practice. In this session, Wiley Blevins shares practical techniques for using decodables to build vocabulary, syntax, comprehension, writing, and spelling skills in PreK–3 classrooms. Featuring the new Sadlier Decode & Discover Series, every participant will gain powerful strategies for linking decodables to broader literacy and content knowledge goals.

Session 2 | Dr. Kateri Thunder
Rereading on Purpose in PreK–3: Strategy, Fluency, and Comprehension
Rereading familiar texts isn't just a fluency strategy, it's a gateway to deeper comprehension, culturally relevant instruction, and mathematical thinking. In this session, Dr. Kateri Thunder explores how multiple reads create access and opportunity for every learner to engage in rich discussion, develop positive identities as readers, and, when familiar texts become contextualized math tasks, demonstrate their full mathematical competence. Every participant will benefit with a vision for purposeful rereads across reading and math contexts in PreK–3 classrooms.

Session 3 | Dr. Eugene Pringle
Identifying and Addressing Literacy Gaps in Secondary: Read the Room
The shift to evidence-based reading practices often overlooks secondary schools, where foundational gaps persist alongside the demand for complex text comprehension. Dr. Eugene Pringle offers a strategic framework for school leaders, content-area teachers, and literacy specialists implementing a coherent Science of Reading model in Grades 6–12. This session addresses both the instructional what and the systemic how, with a focus on disciplinary literacy, equitable assessment, and building school-wide coherence.
